Summer Learning June

Monday June 5 - I took the kids to the Holland Outdoor Discovery Center's program on wetlands today. The leader read a story and then took the kids on a nature hike to the wet lands. The kids both sang their math facts song today. Caiden read 3 books and Maddy read 1. Both kids wrote in their journals and we played a math game (gingerbread bump). We also watched a documentary on Henry Hudson.

Tuesday June 6th - The kids sang their math facts during breakfast then just played at the house this morning from 7:30-10:00. Then we went to the YMCA with friends and the kids passed their swim test!!! Supper exciting. We invited our friends over to play then went to the library to sign up for summer reading after they left. The kids journaled and read then we ate dinner with Mike. After dinner I took the big kids to sign up for 2 more summer reading programs and we met up with some friends for Book and Ice Cream in the park.

Wednesday June 7th - We started the morning with math songs during breakfast. Then the kids read. They finished their homeschool building reading chart so we picked up their prizes today. Caiden chose to get a periodic table. He is fascinated by it. He learned to read it on the way home. We saw the Wyoming fire department was doing a training so we stopped for a minute and watch them shoot the hose. It hit me that I loved that we had time to do that. Our schedule is open and we can just stop and linger when fun things come up. The kids came home and watched documentaries on Fire Ants and Cortez and Pizarra. Then I took the big kids to open gym. We came home and journaled.

Thursday June 8 - We started the day with math songs and reading. Then we met friends at the park. We came home and listened to 4 chapters of Harry Potter and watched a biography on Magellan. We then went to the library and after that we went to a friends pool party.

Friday June 9

Maddy showed mastery of her 2's and 3's today so this new scooter was her reward.

After the carnival Mike and I had a date night and the kids went and played at the Tuninga's.

Friday June 10-

Tonight we watched the kids and the Tuninga's went out. The boys played settlers

Sunday June 11- We sang math songs, read books and the kids listened to Harry Potter on tape. We also went to church and our small group had a pool party.

Monday June 12

Tuesday June 13-

In the morning we volunteered at our churches food pantry

The big kids were super helpful getting the camp site set up.

Monday June 19- Today was a busy day filled with all the right things, We started the day singing Maddy and Caiden's math songs. Then the kids went to kids games from 9:-12:30. Maddy's taking a Karate class and Cadien is taking a soccer class. Both kids loved their group. After kids games we met 2 families at the park for a picnic lunch and play. It was 2:00 by the time we got home. Westin went down for his nap and the big kids and I listened to an hour of Harry Potter. We then played our math game of the week. Yatzee Jr. the kids played around the house and with neighbors and then at 6:00 we went to the library for Ruff Readers. We ran into Katie Moss who was headed to the park with a mutual friend so we headed there after the kids were done reading. The kids finished off the day with journaling in bed.

Tuesday June 24th- We skipped our morning math song because the kids slept in and it was a mad dash to get everyone out the door. After I dropped off the big kids at kids games Westin and I went to the children's museum with some friends from church. When the big kids got done with kids games we had a picnic with the Hovens and headed home for some Harry Potter book on tape. Around 3:30 we met the Tuningas at the UICA. We then went to book and ice cream. We ended the day with journal time.

Not sure we would ever pay for this museum but always nice to visit when we get in free with our children's museum membership.

Wednesday June 23rd- Maddy sang math songs then it was off to kids games. We had lunch with friends then listened to Harry Potter. The kids journaled then read. Then it was off to the western week festival.

Thursday June 22nd- We started the day with Maddy singing her 4's. Then the big kids were off to kids games. Westin and I picked up cupcakes and flowers and swung by the hospital to see our friends new baby boy. After kids games we came home and finished the last 15 minutes of Harry Pottery and then watched the movie. The kids read and journaled. Then we went to our friends house for a pool party.

Friday June 23rd- We started the day with Maddy singing her 4's song during breakfast. Then the kids were off to their last day at Kids games. Westin and I stopped at the bank, sipped iced coffee together at Big B, then went to the library. We came home and I cleaned out his closet. We met up with the Hovens at the park for cherry picking. We came home and the kids needed some down time so they watched the lego batman movie. Then the kids read and wrote in their journals. When Mike got home we all went to the family night event and got to see Maddy's Karate group perform.
