August summer learning
Wednesday August 1
Today we mostly hung out at the house in the morning then Caiden went to his robotic camp in the afternoon. When it was time to pick him up we brought the neighbor girls and spent some time at the museum after his camp was done.
Thursday August 2
We spent the morning at home reading, making projects out of recycled materials, and writing letters to pen pals. Caiden had his last day of robotics camp today. He really enjoyed the camp.
Friday August 3
We read through a choose your own adventure series on World War 2 spies today the kids really enjoyed. We played games and read. Maddy read a Hidden Figures picture book then we watched the movie together. She really likes strong female history characters, so this was a great pick.
Saturday August 4
Mike took the kids to the home depot workshop today and I enjoyed a quite house. The kids made book ends. This is there 2nd project and they really seem to enjoy these workshops. We played ticket to ride in the after noon and did some reading too. My cousin and his family from Washington arrived in time for supper and we enjoyed an evening of board games.
Sunday August 5
My parents came to visit for the day to see me cousin too. The kids had a great time playing together and the adults enjoyed each others company as well. Many books and board games were enjoyed today along with fire fly catching in the evening.
August 6- My cousin's family left in the aftenoon. The boys spent some time playing with snap circuits and everyone spent some time reading.
Tuesday August 7- We spent the morning at home and then in the afternoon we went to the Fredrik Meijer Gardens to play before the concert. It started to rain so we skipped out on the concert.
Wednesday August 8
Today was my birthday. Friends brought over donuts and we played board games and the kids went to open gym with friends while I went out to lunch with a friend. In the evening the kids all got their reading in and we just played at home.
Thursday August 9th
Today was a big day. Caiden finished his summer project of memorizing all the states and capitals he was very excited and proud of himself. The kids also worked on their book reports and tackled a few more pages in their math books. In the afternoon we met friends for a magic show at the East Grand Rapids library. We stayed and played at the lake for awhile then also played at the library. We started listening to the little house on the praire book today. The gardens is having a book discussion in a a few days and we wanted to reread it so the book would be fresh.
Friday august 10
The kids and I started the day off with a mile run. Caiden ran from start to finish. Westin made it maybe 3 driveways. We then biked 6 miles. I pulled Westin in the burley and we stopped half way through for McDonalds mc flurries. We had friends come over in the afternoon. The boys played board games and the girls worked on a sewing project. We listened to the little house on the praire book today as well as the kids read on their own.
Saturday August 11
Today we went kayaking on Reed's Lake in East Grand Rapids. I took Westin and Caiden out then Mike took Maddy out. We went to the East library after and the kids had fun playing with their legos. Perfect Saturday.
August 12
We went to church and came home and had naps. In the evening we had small group. I took no pictures today which is unusual.
August 13
We spent the morning at home reading and cleaning up the house. After lunch we met friends at Richmond Park for swimming. So much fun. The kids love this park. After swimming we had dinner and some friends came over in the evening.
August 14
Today was amazing! We had been reading through Little House on the Prairie this week and today the kids did a book discussion group at the Fredrik Meijer Gardens. The walked from the "big woods" into the log cabin for a book discussion then they had dancing with a fiddler and 2 activities for the kids. They made quilt squares and a log cabin. The kids loved it and the gardens staff did a wonderful job.
August 15
Today was SOOOO cool. The kids have been learning about the titans of the Gilded Age and today we went to the Henry Ford museum. We got to see Vanderbilt's Chair display's on Rockefella and of course tons of Ford exhibits. The kids loved seeing some of the things we had been learning about in real life. Helping to build a real Modle T was a highlight for everyone! We arrived at the museum around 10:30 and left around 3:30. We had enough time to see everything although the kids could have stayed a little longer to go back to their favorite areas. But we didn't want to get stuck in rush hour trafic. We went to my Uncles house afterwards, he only lives about 30 minutes for the museum.
We hung out with family at my uncle's house today. The kids play video games, hung out in the hot tub, play some card games, and threw the football around.
Friday August 17
Today we went to Belle Isle. It was a blast and I highly recommend it if you are in Detroit. They have America's oldest aquarium there, a conservatory, beach, and nature center. They also have boats you can rent, a giant super fun play ground, and a giant slide. We arrived a little before 11:00 and left around 3:00 because a rain storm came in. We could have used way more time on the island.
Saturday August 18
Today we went to the Maker Fair at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. It's a collection of creative inventors, robotic displays, and craftsman. These fairs are nation wide. This is my husband's favorite day of the year. He just loves this thing. So many cool things here. The kids got to do a lot of fun things.
Today we went to church had lunch played board game then took a family bike ride. We've been doing a 6 mile loop with the kids that's really fun. It's super cool that they can ride for multiple miles now that they are older. They kids ended the day with a nerf gun fight.
Monday August 20
All the Neighborhood kids went back to school today. So we decided to got to Michigan Adventures with some homeschool friends to celebrate not going back to school. We had a lot of fun.
Tuesday August 21
We were pretty wiped out from our big day at Michigan adventures yesterday so I allowed the kids to do something out of the ordinary. We watched tv in the morning. We watched the who was show. It's a great little history show that spot lights different historical figures. We spent all day in our pjs.
Wednesday August 22nd
Today we turned in our summer reading logs to schulers and baker bookhouse. This took all morning. We stopped for lunch at pizza hut with our library coupons. We then went swimming with 3 other families at the kroc center with our free day passes from book and ice cream. we also used their rock wall and had fun at the park there.
Thursday August 23
Today we did arts and crafts, played games at home, and finished packing for our weekend trip. Sleeping queens has become a new favorite game.
Friday August 24
The kids and I left in the morning for our camping trip while Mike went to work. The kids helped me get camp set up and were extremely helpful. We enjoy Wolverine campground when we come to visit Thomas. We love the lake front sites.
Saturday August 25
While Westin loves coming to Greenfeild village to ride on Thomas I love it for all the history the kids can get. This little village full of homes and businesses from the 1880's-1900's. Caiden loves the magic show and got to be in it again. We had rain in the morning but the rest of the day was great.
Today we played some sleeping queens and then packed up the campsite. We were all pretty beat after some late nights and activity packed days.
Tuesday August 28
Today was a catch up day. We played a lot at home and then got groceries and stopped by the homeschool building. We then did some cleaning. Westin and I took naps in the afternoon. It has been a busy last few days. In the evening we went to the Holland Outdoor discovery Center for their Native American program.

Thursday August 16We hung out with family at my uncle's house today. The kids play video games, hung out in the hot tub, play some card games, and threw the football around.
Friday August 17
Today we went to Belle Isle. It was a blast and I highly recommend it if you are in Detroit. They have America's oldest aquarium there, a conservatory, beach, and nature center. Monday August 27
We spent the morning at home painting, playing in the sensory bins, and doing legos. We listened to the Adventures of Tom Sawyer on the way to Grand Haven. Then we toured the chocolate factory there. We learned about the Cacao Tree and where it grows and some of the history of chocolate. Then we learned about how the factory works and even got some free samples. Then we went to the beach. Super fun day with friends.

Tuesday August 28
Today was a catch up day. We played a lot at home and then got groceries and stopped by the homeschool building. We then did some cleaning. Westin and I took naps in the afternoon. Wednesday August 29
Today was a much needed stay at home day. We played some ticket to ride in the morning then the kids helped me clean up the house. We went shopping for Halloween customs at once upon a child then enjoyed playing at home. We went for a family walk in the evening and saw a beautiful sunset together.
Thursday August 30
Caiden got his braces off today so we invited some friends over for a braces removal party and had all kinds of candy he wasn't allowed to have with his braces over the last year. The kids also had their first soccer practice of the season today.
Friday August 31
We went with 6 other families to Dutch Village today. The kids had a blast riding rides and spending time with friends and the moms enjoyed spending time together.

Saturday September 1
Mike took the kids to the home depot workshop today which was so nice to have a quite house all to my self. Then he took the kids to see the fire works with their friends while I hung out with a friend.
Sunday September 2
Today we spent the day getting ready for a camping trip and grocery shopping after church. The kids helped me make homemade lunchables so they can be more self sufficient in getting their own food.

Monday September 3
We drove up to Muskegun state park today. Two other moms and their kids are going to be camping with us for one last summer hoary. The men will be at home working and we'll be enjoying some time in nature.
