Week 28 week 8 covid lock down
Monday
Today is May the 4th! In other words it's a holiday for Star Wars fans. We dug up our Star Wars books, we all wore costumes or shirts, we made jello Star Wars charters, and we watched The Rise of Skywalker in the evening. It was a fun distraction for another day in isolation. We continued our study on the reproductive system in science. We talked about the fall of the western Roman empire in history. Westin has been doing very well with his new readers and writing workbook. He is working on short e. Maddy is working on memorizing her 8's division math facts and Caiden started his 6th grade math book a few weeks ago. Caiden and Maddy are working on writing sentences from print to cursive from their spelling dictation book. They are also typing out sentences form their spelling books. We did our usual Monday thing I liked best about last week for our writing project. I took the big kids for a 3 mile bike ride to train for our upcoming bike ride from Millennium park to the zoo. The kids are also working on being able to do a pull up. In the afternoon we enjoyed playing some games together.
Today is Cinco de Mayo! We of course talk about how Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican's independence day. We were planning on having Tacos and Margaritas so Maddy asked if she could set up a restaurant and serve us dinner. So of course I said yes! She typed up a menu and we used play money and she had to figure out each persons bill and give change while Caiden had to figure out the tip. I also had the kids make a list of the things they are looking forward to doing once quarantine is over. We had another fun day. The kids also tackled all their other subjects.
Wednesday
It's our weekly day off!!!! We spent the morning playing at home. The boys were playing make believe in their Star Wars masks. The kids also did some coding on scratch. We had lunch then we went for a hike at Millennium park. We found an eagle's nest on our hike. In the evening we had a campfire and our first smores of the evening.
Today we only did half a day of school. The kids took their science quiz on the reproductive unit for science. We started our Roman Mythology unit today in history. The kids painted their library box toady. Westin did his reading and writing and then started on a coloring project. His coloring is really improving this year. The big kids did their writing, spelling, and reading. The in the afternoon the big kids and I went on a 7 mile bike ride on the Kent trails. Westin stayed home with Mike. We all had a really fun day.
