Outer Banks

Saturday-  We drove to Toledo and made our first stop.  We lucked out and got free street parking and had spent 2 hours playing at their science center.  We ate the sack lunch I had packed in the car and our next stop was Pittsburgh's science center.  The kids played for about 2 hours there then we drove a little more and stayed the night at a hotel.

We don't do school on vacation but in the car is far game.  Caiden did Math and English everyday we were in the car.
To help the 15 hours car time pass we gave the kids gifts from the dollar store to open.
Sunday- We drove from Pennsylvania to the Sky Line Caverns in Virginia for our first stop of the day.   The kids loved the cave and it was our only paid attraction while we traveled.  It was defiantly worth it.  The kids had a blast and learned a lot too. Then we headed to the Living Museum in Norfolk Virginia.  We arrived at our rental house around 8:00 so we all made a quick run to the ocean to get our feet wet and found some cool shells too.

Monday- I went to the grocery store and got our food for the week. We walked to the beach and played until lunch.  I took the big kids back to the beach while Westin napped then we all came in for dinner.  We ended the day with a walk to the fish market and then played a local park.

Started the morning with a cup of coffee and the sound of the ocean.
I loved that Mike cooked dinner for us every night!

Tuesday- Today we drove to the fishing pier and played next to it for our morning outing.  Today we had the kids hang out at the house while Westin napped.  It seemed they got too much sun on Monday.  The down time was good for everyone.  When Westin woke up went back to our beach until dinner.  After dinner we played at a new park with a pirate ship.

The kids are watching someone catch a small shark from the pier.
Westin watched us burry the big kids in the sand and wanted in on it.
Westin first time being buried in the sand.
Wave jumping next to the pier.
There were a lot of sand castles and sand sculptures made this week.
Caiden's favorite beach activity, digging.
Westin wasn't so sure about the ocean on Monday.  But today he jumped right in.
Instead of going out for ice cream.  We bought ice cream at the store and ate it on our deck.
We don't do curriculum learning on vaca but I we do learning activities. Caiden spelling with letter crackers.

Wednesday- We got up and played at our beach until lunch. After lunch we got everyone showered and relaxed in the house while Westin slept.  We he woke up we drove 45 minutes to Nags Head for our dolphin watching tour.

Thursday- In the morning Mike and the big kids toured the tallest Light house in North America.  We also picked up the kids ranger books and worked on them while Westin slept.  We played at the beach near the light house and enjoyed the waves coming up the shoots of the old pier.  That evening Mike took the big kids ghost crab hunting.
