Week 12

Monday
The big kids had a productive morning. We are continuing our study on World War 1 in history.  We talked about the 2nd and 3rd Battle of Ypres.  We reviewed with the bingo game and our battle pictures and country flap books.  We also talked about Sargent York.  In science we are working on learning about cells.  Today we talk about the mitochondria and reviewed the previous organelles.  Caiden is working with prime numbers and factor trees and Maddy did not have to do math today as she worked ahead this weekend.  Caiden worked on a Christmas themed writing project and Maddy wrote a letter to her pen pal in Virginia. We talked about Jacob's latter in bible. Maddy worked on reading her chapter book on pirate dogs and Caiden enjoys reading in the evening. The kids worked on their Spanish vocabulary words in Quizlet and listened to some of the music their teachers have put in their online folders.
Westin found his letters in his sensory bin and traced the letter of the day. We talked about the sound of M and that Mice starts with M.  We read 2 Christams book about the letter M.  Westin did a counting activity and pre writing page.  He spent the rest of the morning playing legos.  When all 3 kids were done with school we made chex mix together.  We made a double batch and I had the kids figure out the math for that.
After lunch Caiden had Art school and I took Maddy and Westin to the Grandville library.  We played games, read, colored together, and did a puppet show.  After art we went to the Linford's house to play.  Next, we dropped Maddy off at her sewing lessons.  The boys and I went to the Wyoming library.  Caiden enjoyed the magnetic blocks and Westin enjoyed the light table.

Wednesday
We got all our work for the day done by 12:30 and even had time to play in the snow this morning.  Then we took a field trip with a facebook group to the Kent County Sheriff building.  We got to meet the k-9 unit, meet the S.W.A.T. team, Caiden was very interested in the S.W.A.T. robot and got to drive it.  They also got to try on the S.W.A.T. gear and visit the 911 dispatch unit.  The kids learned alot and had a really good time.  After the visit we came back home for about an hour and then headed off to the library for an event on solar hydro and wind power.  The kids really enjoyed this too.  Maddy checked out a launch pad for the first time and enjoyed doing the math games in the evening on it and we got out some water and boats for our history lesson tomorrow and Westin enjoyed that.  Caiden spent the evening working on his comic book.

Thursday
Today was a great example of how efficient learning allows us to do some pretty awesome things.  All 3 of my kids were up at 7:00 and were finished with school by 9:30.  In history we reviewed all our major countries involved in World War 1, major battles, world leaders, and had a new lesson about the Lusitania.  In Science we learned about the nucleolus of the cell.  Both kids did reading, Spanish, and spelling.  Maddy had worked ahead over the weekend so she had already finished her Math and writing project of the day, but Caiden managed to get both done before 9:30.  Westin and I worked on writing the letter M and worked in his letter sticker book too.
After we were done with school we went to Catch Air with 5 other families.  It's their toys for tots time and you can get in free with a donated toy.  We always go to the dollar store and for $3 my kids get to play all day.  Normal admission would have been $30, so it's a good time for us to visit. You can't bring in food but you can leave and come back.  So around lunch time we went to Pizza Hut with our book-it coupons.  After lunch we went back to Catch Air and stayed until 3:00 with 2 new families that weren't able to join us in the morning. Maddy had dance tonight and then we made pies in preperation for Mike's family's visit. For a few bucks we had a pretty awesome day.
