week 27 Covid lock down week 7

Monday
We started our reproductive unit in science today.  We talked about the Colosseum in history then we all went for a family run.  We also stated talking about Pompeii today and we are working on building Mt. Vesuvius. We also have been enjoying watching our seeds grow.  Maddy read we are growing to Westin today and Caiden read The Lorax to Westin today too.  Westin and I baked cookies together which is always fun. Caiden and Maddy also did their Spelling, Math, writing, handwriting, and typing today.  Westin did a great job on his reading today and his writing project.

Tuesday
Wednesday has typically been our day off since Covid 19 took over the world but it was a sunny today and there were free tacos at Taco Bell so we decided to make today our day off.  Westin is pretty much finished with his Teach A Child to Read in 100 Easy lessons book so I got out a kindergarten reading curriculum I bought a few years ago.  He saw the easy reader books and he was very excited to begin.  So on our day off he read the first story in his easy reader and did a page in his writing workbook too.  The kids continued to work on their Mt. Vesuvius project while I went grocery shopping.  Then for lunch we grabbed our free Taco Bell Tacos and went to Maple Park in Jenison.  We hiked around the lake and saw lots of wild life.  We came home and the kids helped me do some cleaning then they got screen time.

We had a lot of fun today doing our Pompeii dioramas.  We used salt dough to make a model city of Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius then used vinegar and baking soda to make the volcano erupt. Caiden also made chex mix all by himself.  We've been doing way too much baking during quarantine.  Caiden also has a standing date with some friends on Wednesday afternoons to play jackbox games.  He always enjoys playing these with his friends. The kids did a fantastic job on their Math, Spelling, Reading, Writing, Hand writing, and typing projects.  They are rock stars!

Caiden had his last Van Andel cohort Zoom call in the morning.  The kids all presented on the pandemic they were researching.  They also had their Spanish Zoom call today.  They had to recreate a picture by an Spanish speaking artist they had learned about this year.  Maddy choose Frida Kahlo and Caiden choose Joan Miro.  The kids contiued their reproductive unit in science and ancient Roman studies in history.  They did a great job tackling their other subjects too.  We had an indoor pizza party picnic in the basement tonight for dinner.

We continued our science unit on the reproductive system.  In history we are continuing to study the Roman Emperors. We talked about Constantine. The kids worked on making a lap book on Michael Phels for their Hamilton project.
Saturday
We did a lot of yard work today and then had a campfire in the evening.  The kids spent a lot of time outside playing which always make me happy.
