week 13

Monday - I love our decision to take Monday's off from curriculum!  We went down to the public museum to see their new climate exhibit and lego exhibit.  The kids enjoyed both.  We also enjoyed seeing the winter wonderland art exhibit on the blue bridge.  We played a few games of Carrcasone and the kids all read.  It was a great day of learning without curriculum.

Tuesday - I had the kids pick out an animal and a poster color.  I put books on hold for them and told them they had to make a poster with facts and pictures about their animals.  They LOVED this project. They were all very proud of their work.  I'm working hard at trying to have just for fun activities for the kids.  Today we put Mentos in diet coke.  It's always a good one. For science we talked about Galilo and how he learned that items fall at the same rate.  We dropped and apple and a mentos of the back porch and observed that they fell at the same time. We are talking about the Spanish Moors in History this week.

Wednesday- The kids have been asking to have hot chocolate and Mad Lib time every day.  I love that they are getting extra grammar in and it's a good way to connect.  We've been talking about the muslim Moors in history and how they were really good at personal hygiene so we did the put the soap in the microwave thing and the kids loved it.  The kids also had their outdoor group today.  They have really been enjoying it.  Their teacher brought out a golden eagle.

Thursday
So I need to start with talking about Caiden's obsession with playing with his Rubik cube.  He can now solve it in less than 2 minutes.  He spends a lot of his time watching tutorials with Mike and working with cutting down his time. Our day started with a nature hike to collect items for a ice ordainment.  This was a lot of fun.  The kids found some cool items. Westin and Maddy are working on a lego Mosaic of a storm trooper and worked with the legos a lot today. In the evening we went downtown to see the new world of winter exhibit. It was fun to walk around downtown at night.

Friday -
Today was a little crazy.  I cut back the kids school to just History, Math, reading, writing, Spelling, art and Spanish.  Caiden had a battle of the books meeting today and we hadn't finished putting together the packets.  So we worked on that today.  The Hamilton program we use has only 1 more week left and we've been having a tough time finishing a few of the projects due to the new platform they are using. It's been a total headache!  But while I was busy working with Caiden on the battle of the books notes Maddy assembled a hydraulic lift and Westin was teaching himself how to write Chinese characters.

We are half way through the battle of the books list!
