week 18

Sunday - Today was Valentine's Day.  I always try and make today a special day for the kids. We have heart shaped waffles and I fill a bag with goodies for them.  I included art supplies in them so the kids spent several hours painting today. Mike and I enjoyed doing yoga together in the basement and enjoyed soaking in the hot tub in the morning.  We played games, enjoyed chocolate, and watched The Princess Bride together in the evening.

Monday Today was president's day.  It was also our day off of school.  I did read to them the weird but true book on presidents.  We played Pit, Monopoly, and Clue.  Caiden's Eureka kit came in the mail today so he enjoyed working on building a printing press.  Maddy worked on writing a comic book. We also went for a hike today.  The kids enjoyed left over Valentines Day waffles for lunch.  In the evening we just started watching the X-Men series in order.  We started with the Star Wars movies and then we did The Marvel movies in order and we are currently working our way through the X-Men.

Tuesday -  Today was Fat Tuesday.  We went to Marge's and got Paczki.  We came home and watched some YouTube videos on Mardi Gras and the kids did a writing assignment on it as well.  We also decorated Mardi Gras Masks.  In science we are talking about sedimentary rocks.  We made some out of candy today which was lots of fun. We also cut open our rock project that we started last week.  I also included a picture of Westin working on his writing.  I hardly ever take pictures of the kids working on their reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, math, reading, typing, or handwriting.  But we're constantly working on these things.  Instead of writing all that out each day I just said we finished school and it means all of that. Caiden is still working on his printing press and having a lot of fun putting it together.  I worked on putting pictures into frames today and Westin had swim and Maddy had horse lessons.  In the evening I had the kids help me declutter the toy bin.  It felt good to get rid of the stuff the kids don't play with anymore.

Wednesday-  We had a relaxed start to our day. Caiden finished his printing press, which was so exciting and Maddy fixed her American girl doll that had lost her leg.  When we finally got started with school we did our igneous rock experiment which the kids loved.  In history we are talking about Genghis Khan and the Mongols.  It felt good to have a slow day at home.
